Hydrogen always expensive? No: with subsidy there can be financial benefit as an entrepreneur. Then hydrogen is a good move not only environmentally but also commercially.

In 2024, the Hydrogen in Mobility Subsidy scheme (SWiM) was introduced for the first time in The Netherlands. This grant is for companies looking to purchase zero-emission vans and/or trucks. By 2024, Fountain Fuel has formed two robust consortia around the Amersfoort and Nijmegen stations to apply for this grant. The consortia consist of entrepreneurs who purchase a mix of trucks, small trucks, vans and passenger vans for target group transportation.
100% ZERO EMISSIONS
Hydrogen is zero-emission, the only emission is water vapor. So work in ZE zones and natura2000 areas is possible!
SHORT TANKING TIME
Fueling a hydrogen vehicle takes about the same amount of time as traditional fuels, such as gasoline, diesel or LPG.
So you are on your way again in no time!
HEAVIER DUTY
Hydrogen vehicles may be taxed more heavily than electric vehicles (for example, in terms of payload weight, towing weight or range).
So you can also do the “trickier” work!

For companies and (semi-)government, there are also other schemes that can provide subsidy or tax benefits. You can apply for the schemes as a company:

Currently, there is one grant you can use to purchase a hydrogen-powered passenger car: the Electric Passenger Car Subsidy Scheme for Private Individuals (SEPP).
A hydrogen truck currently costs between €350,000 and €650,000. That is sometimes even higher than battery-electric trucks now. However, with the SWiM subsidy, the subsidy amount could go up to €300,000, making the hydrogen truck competitive with BEV trucks.
In principle, any company can participate in the SWiM grant. The important thing is to work in a consortium for this with a hydrogen refueling station and any other companies. The gas station is applying for the grant for the entire consortium. Joining a consortium also brings other benefits, such as economies of scale, innovation benefits and mutual knowledge exchange.

To combat climate change, more and more sustainable energy is being produced. Storage and distribution of sustainable energy is crucial. Much can be done with battery-electric, but without hydrogen, the energy transition will come to a standstill. In mobility, hydrogen will play a crucial role.
